We have had a number of inquiries recently from customers who have asked how they will be impacted by the Data Breach Notification Legislation.
In case you don’t know, the Data Breach Notification Legislation is being introduced in February 2018 and will impact any business which generates revenue of over $3m or is a charity or government department. Any business impacted by a data breach is to inform the privacy commissioner and their customers. It effectively results in businesses publicising that they are victims of a data breach.
For example, if a person’s credit card details, personal identification details, Tax File number, medical records, passwords, or other information were leaked or obtained fraudulently then it needs to be reported. If it isn’t, then there is the possibility of substantial fines.
At Surety IT we are running a free workshop in January that will deal directly with how this will impact individual businesses that attend and also help plan next steps for them. In order for us to deliver this workshop effectively, we have partnered with cyber security experts – Stickman.
It is important business stakeholders are in the workshop as the Data Breach Notification Legislation is a whole of business issue.
The workshop will cover:
- Overview of the Australian Privacy Principles
- Overview of the Mandatory Data Breach Notification Bill
- Case studies of what other organisations are doing?
- Review what type of data is stored, processed and transmitted by the business
- Review types of systems, processes that handle Personal Identifiable Information (PII) data
- Review any external third parties that handle PII Data for the business
- Answer any questions from the attendees
- Take next steps actions and close the workshop
The workshop will last approximately 2 hours. Places are strictly limited as the group needs to be kept small for those attendees to get maximum value out of it.
The workshop will take place in the Surety IT boardroom on Wednesday 31st January arriving at 7:00am for a 7:30am start. A light breakfast is included.
If you would like further information on the workshop or would like to attend, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
